    In January I cancelled my gym membership for the first time I'm 20 years. I wanted to work out at home instead, making it easier to fit around family commitments and being able to train outside when the weather allows. I spent about 6 months beforehand researching free standing and wall mounted pull up options, including watching your great videos! I settled on the Gravity Fitness free standing portable rack and it's been absolutely brilliant. I mostly use it with gymnastic rings and I haven't got a single complaint. At first it appears a bit unstable, but as long as you have mastered the basics and have decent core strength, you barely notice the movement whilst performing exercises. It's really easy to move about and put up and down. I've got 20+ years of training experience and this is the happiest I've ever been. I'll never go back to the gym now I've got this at home to use.

    I just received my upgrade that allows me to swap my basebench and turns it into the basebench pro. You’re rite about the basebench platform being slightly wobbly but it still is awesome. I essentially have both uprights now but I’ll only be using it with my pro upgrade for dragon flags, core resistance training, nordics, and weighted bridges. The pro seems a lot more stable and the transition time between exercises is huge for me. If I could do it all over again, I would’ve just got the pro from the start. Pads on the pro are head and shoulders more comfortable too.

    wtf? "If you aren't strong than I really can't see the benefit of being big." thats a delusion, if you are big and training with lighter weights it doesn't mean your are weak, it means that you don't want to train with heavy weights because you aren't an ego lifter, want to avoid injuries, your measure of performance is being healthy muscle and joint wise... measuring performance by kgs is just a metric, there could be many metrics, more kgs just vanity because somebody can't really use their "super" strength other than comparing it to others, basically same as comparing your muscle size to others lol... by the way the wording 'weak' also very derogatory toward one side, because by definition big muscles can't be weak... so thinkg again...

    • @LeeDowningKeat
      @LeeDowningKeat 21 день назад

      So my training is more based around performance, that's what motivates me not looking bigger, getting bigger and chasing aesthetics is secondary to me. I don't see the benefit of getting big ( i understand no size/weight etc has been specified to what constitutes being big) if you are not that strong in relation to that size. I have trained with many people that were far bigger than me but were not as strong, I'm talking weight lifting and calisthenics so understand the strength to bodyweight ratio. Why do you think people want to look big?? that's vanity.no judgement but you are chasing a look. most don't care about strength yet you say people who lift heavy weights are ego lifting, not true at all, there are some that may do that but most people strength training are just trying to get stronger than what they were before, competing with themselves. I would argue and I think squat university looked into this and heavy lifting doesn't mean more risk to injuries , actually quite the opposite, more likely with lighter weights and when you take sets to failure. Lots of volume isn't great on the joints and connective tissue either but I'm sure we could a agree that a safe consideration of volume and intensity with good form and good rest between workouts can help avoid injuries and help connective tissue issues. We need to define weak though, if you are training with lifter weights you are not focusing on strength adaptions, your right and technically a bigger muscle is a stronger one yet most strength gains are neurological and you don't get that training with lighter weights, plus the size you do gain is more focused on sarcoplasmic as opposed to myofibrillar hypertrophy, the actually growing on contractile tissue on and not the cell volume increase or the muscles energy reserves. I'm sure you'd agree you will be stronger having more contractile tissue that just more energy reserves. It does seem you have a personal issue towards strength training and a bias towards bodybuilding and that's fine I'm the same but opposite but my opinion is based on experience of doing both and aligns with how I like to train and what my goals are. So I stand by my opinion of i don't see the point is being big if you are not that strong, it serves no other purpose that just being big for the sake of it which would likely mean its for vanity reasons, and that is fine, train for whatever goal you want, if you are exercise and being healthy that's cool but to me its like that expression "all show no go" and that does appeal to me.

    For me personally it's very challenging to count reps while focusing on maintaining a proper form during the exercise. I'm not multitasking whatsoever!😅 I think counting reps is not really necessary as long as you train to failure in each and every set your body doesn't know how many reps you've done. What matters is training to failure.

    It was a good advice overall. I'd add that rest days between the training days are essential for muscle growth and what is also important is an adequate daily consumption of protein particularly Leucine amnio acid to promote muscle growth. The paper below delves into detailed explanation of how at least 2 gram of protein per kg of weight a day is essential to trigger muscle growth. "2) For building muscle mass and for maintaining muscle mass through a positive muscle protein balance, an overall daily protein intake in the range of 1.4-2.0 g protein/kg body weight/day (g/kg/d) is sufficient for most exercising individuals, a value that falls in line within the Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range published by the Institute of Medicine for protein. 5) Acute protein doses should strive to contain 700-3000 mg of leucine and/or a higher relative leucine content, in addition to a balanced array of the essential amino acids (EAAs)." Jäger, R., Kerksick, C.M., Campbell, B.I. et al. International Society of Sports Nutrition Position Stand: protein and exercise. J Int Soc Sports Nutr 14, 20 (2017).
